News from the BS Achilles
Here is the latest news from the CO of the BS Achilles
The weekend at FARPOINT was a major success! Where to start? The Achilles and Angel Styron hosted a mixer on Friday night. It was well attended. We watched the classic episode "The Living Legend" and served snacks and soda. A special thanks to Major Mark Hanford from the Stormbringer, 5th Fleet, for bringing us some "blue" and "red" to enjoy. Commander Jim Kanaley, Angel Styron CO, created something new called "Picon Purple" out of the two and it was also very enjoyable. Also in attendance were members of the Battlestar Mjolnir and what has turned out to be our newest Battlestar, created over this weekend and launched just one week later, the Guardian. Just wait until these pictures are posted! Saturday was our biggest day ever. First, saw the completion of Achilles XO Major Sonny Wright's latest project, a 27 foot mockup of a Viper Mark II. The pictures don't do it justice, but some can be seen here on our site and more on the CCN. Great job, Sonny. Second, the Achilles inducted its third Honorary Lifetime Member, James "Baltar" Callis. Again, see pictures. He told me that he will hang the certificate we gave him on his wall at home when he gets there. The CDF and the 7th Fleet held meetings that day as well. Reports were read from around the Fleet from the 3rd (VADM Caperella), 5th (VADM Simmons), 6th (RADM Rivera) as well as our own VADM Robinson in the 7th and from our Marines (BGEN McPherson). Many awards were given out, mainly the Arrow of Apollo which was awarded to Jim Kanaley for all his fine work lately on our new ID badges. Congrats to you all. We also scored a major recruiting success this weekend. The 7th Fleet scored not one, not two, but THREE Honorary chapters (a new program which we will all hear about later), and a whole new Battlestar--the Guardian BSR 65. Achilles also had two new members sign on and many recruiting flyers were handed out so there are more to sign up. The Achilles away team consisted of myself, Sonny Wright, Beryl Washington, Joe Horton, and Bob and Emily Vosseller. Foe those of you who could not attend, well, there is always next year. We will be there. Talks are already in the works for hosting the CDF IC 2009 there. Until next month.
